Kapler to the Brewers?

When I read the title “Brewers sign OF Gabe Kapler,” I thought I was still on my strat-o-matic baseball site.

I will admit, it’s an $800,000 non-guaranteed contract. We’re not giving away the farm for some washed up player coming out of retirement. But, what do the Brewers expect from Kapler? The guy hasn’t hit more than five home runs in a season since 2001. The good news is that he has some managerial experience. Hopefully, he can talk some sense into the ‘82 Brewer coaching staff.

Rolen to the Brewers: The guy is expensive but he is a wonderful defensive option. I would reconsider a 20-game package if they brought him aboard.
Riske deal close: Please finalize this deal. We need someone in the bullpen with Turnbow
Sheets rumors: I’m done with Sheets. I held him on my fantasy keeper team for years only to watch him sit on the DL. I would welcome a Sheets/Weeks deal any day of the week.

Whew, the Brewers are close to deal with a solid veteran David Riske. I thought they were a bit too quick to sign a catcher after Estrada left but this gives me hope.

Strat-o-Matic

I have decided to buy a Strat-o-Matic team for Sporting News’ 2006 game.

I’m currently in last place but I have having a lot of fun trying to figure out the intricacies of the game. Think of it as Dungeons and Dragons for the baseball fan. You draft a team with 80 million dollars and the computer rolls the dice every night based on cards.

I’ll talk a bit when I figure out why the guys who have coached thousands of leagues are leading their divisions. There has to be a technique or pattern that I haven’t noticed yet.

Linebrink to the White Sox?

I guess the Brewers are losing another valuable (more valuable since the Cordero loss) reliever. Scott Linebrink is heading to the White Sox.

We gained some high draft picks since Scott was a Class A free agent but it looks like Turnblow might be sitting alone in the bullpen next year.

An interesting note…

Curt Schilling wasn’t a free agent until this past October and he’s been playing for 21 years.
