And then all was lost…
Two things I learned on Friday:
- You get what you pay for. My $10 a year host was hacked. I think the server people figured it was easier to reformat the server than try to save anything.
- Back up your stuff every now and then. I honestly backed up using Wordpress’ export feature on June 29th. I don’t know if it hit a limit or what but it didn’t backup anything past 2008.
This is a painful lesson but I should know better. I will hopefully have my code examples for MD5/SHA1 uploaded soon.

OUCH! – That sucks!
A good thing about rss (if you are still looking for one) is that if you subscribed to your own feed, the RSS reader keeps all of your content so, you can always recreate your blog droppings. I was also impacted by the “outage” and, unlike you, am not continuing blog (not that anyone was reading). Call it old age or laziness, but I find all of the new media requires a lot of time and I would just rather save mine for work and family.
Maybe one day all of the hack3rs with “free time” will get employed and work to better the world rather than give me a severe case of the @#$@#$@
