ByVal?

Nov 27, 2007

Tim Tripcony explains his use of “ByVal parameters” in his blog today. He prefers Sub sendDocToBoss(ByVal doc as NotesDocument) to Sub sendDocToBoss(doc as NotesDocument).

I’m going to argue the 80/20 rule on this one. Eighty percent of the Notes Developers out there don’t use “ByVal” in their functions/subs so why confuse them? I have coded without ByVal for nearly ten years and I have never touched a referenced parameter (in fact… I keep forgetting that I can).

Program any way you want but just remember that the next programmer might not read your blog and understand your ByVal tendencies.

Treobble

Nov 26, 2007

I tried Treobble for my Palm 755p tonight. I must not be ready for the “touchscreen” navigation/revolution because I became quite frustrated with how slow it scrolled.
