Web Service Enabled Script Libraries?!?!?

So one of wonderful Notes Administrators downloaded the Notes 8 Client/Designer for me today. I installed it on my PC at home and I’ve been poking around a bit. At first I was a little underwhelmed but I ran into something quite interesting in the script library section… Export WSDL and Show WSDL buttons.

At first I couldn’t figure out what they were for. Why export the WSDL of a script library? After googling I found Mikkel Heisterberg’s blog entry on the subject.

You can import the WSDL into your script library. Then, an agent (or form… or whatever) can call the web service just like a LotusScript function. Holy Sh*t.

Read the sample here. I tried it… and I was impressed. SOA and Lotus Notes might be used in the same sentence sometime soon.
I wonder if in a couple of years I might proudly say… “my name is Tom O’Neil and I’m a Lotus Notes developer.”
